Barbera

The Broke Estate Barbera was planted in 1996 in pursuit of an interesting Italian style red wine and soon produced highly sought after grapes. The vineyard went out of production, but Max has nurtured the vines steadily back.

Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety in the top three most-planted red grape varieties in Italy and is the key wine for many of the Italian regional red wine blends. It is known for deep colour, low tannins and high levels of acid. When young, the wines offer a very intense aroma of fresh red cherries and blackberries.

Match with most meats, cheese and any dishes with cream or olive oil – even ice cream. Best with food but can be served slightly chilled as a great drinking wine.
