The Broke Estate Barbera was planted in 1996 in pursuit of an interesting Italian style red wine and soon produced highly sought after grapes. The vineyard went out of production, but Max has nurtured the vines steadily back. The 2016 Barbera grapes were hand-picked and fermented in oak barrels.
Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety in the top three most-planted red grape varieties in Italy and is the key wine for many of the Italian regional red wine blends. It is known for deep colour, low tannins and high levels of acid. When young, the wines offer a very intense aroma of fresh red cherries and blackberries. The 2016 Broke Estate Barbera has a classic light red style and the acid means it is a great food wine that goes well with most meats, cheese, any dishes with cream or olive oil, even ice cream. Can be served slightly chilled as a great drinking wine.
Match with most meats, cheese and any dishes with cream or olive oil – even ice cream. Best with food but can be served slightly chilled as a great drinking wine.
